Concert opening sets for National Acts: (in Texas) Red Cross Band-Aid Benefit (prior to Live-Aid) at Houston’s Rockefellers. Garret was also featured on the NBC evening news urging support for this benefit concert. Opened Sets for Austin/Houston musicians: Nanci Griffith, Chris Thomas, Townes Van Zandt, Dana Cooper, Kenny Cordray, the Texas Outlaw Comics, and others.
In Oct. 2010, Garret with his band from Atlanta, traveled to Texas to play shows for some very excited crowds. His Houston show at The Hideaway on Dunvale was the first Texas appearance of his band Whooping Cranes; also featuring singer bassist C Dub, and singer drummer Bellian Marshall. This show was historical and hysterical! Garret also performed the opening set for The Inanimate Objects CD Release Party in Houston with alt rock band The Businessmen, featuring The Bmen vocalist Don McPants. For many years, Garret hosted a Christmas Holiday reunion party at The Ale House in Houston. Since the Ale House closed their doors, last year's 2010 'Mistletoe Madness' event was performed & hosted by Garret at Dan Electro's Guitar Bar, along with bands: My Crisis. The Inanimate Objects, & The Businessmen. And, Garret opened the show with a firebursting Solo set of music. The evening included guest appearances by Tom Ng and Rod Rodriguez. For the recent 2011 Mistletoe Madness packed-house crowd at Dan Electro's in Houston, Garret presented The Octanes, Rockaway Radio, and The Businessmen with Mark 'Milo' Adams (fromThe Drive Off the Map album) on drums, and The Bmen Tom Ng (from the Rock Island days) on Bass & backing vocals. In Oct. 2011, Garret brought his solo acoustic show to JP Hops House in West Houston, one of the finest acoustic music venues in all of Texas. In early 2012, Garret performed solo acoustic for an amazing visual art event at 2 Rules Fine Art in Marietta, GA, which included many of his original solo guitar works.
